How I can help
You can expect a warm, respectful, and supportive space where you can explore what you’re going through. You will be talking to someone with experience working with a range of issues some of which are mentioned below; this is not an exhaustive list.
I offer a safe space that is welcoming of all cultural backgrounds, and of the LGBTQ+ community. It can be helpful to know that you’re speaking to someone who on some level ‘gets it’.
What can counselling and psychotherapy help with?
-
Feeling stuck
Are you feeling ‘stuck’, maybe unsure why and are wanting to make a change?
-
Self-esteem
Do you feel you’re always putting other people first?
-
Impact of the past
Is something that happened in the past still on your mind or affecting you in the present?
-
Loss
Are you dealing with the loss of someone or something important in your life?
-
Identity
Are you questioning who you are and how things came to be like this?
-
Change
Are you at a turning point in your life: finishing uni, at the start or end of a relationship, or changing job or career?
What sort of therapy do I offer?
I draw upon an approach called Transactional Analysis (TA). The principles of this approach are that we are all born OK, and we all have the capacity to think and make changes.
TA can help you to make sense of what is happening in the present and how this may be influenced by the past. In sessions, you might explore what messages you received from others, what beliefs you formed, the decisions you made as a result and the direction your life is heading.
I would invite you to look at all of this from a place of compassion and curiosity whilst supporting you to make the changes that take your life in a new direction.
This new direction is decided by you.
It is important that both you and I have a clear understanding of what it is you would like to be different and for counselling sessions to focus on working towards that. You may not know exactly what that is yet and that is a common experience for many people. That can be a good place to start and somewhere to move towards: exploring and knowing what it is you want to be different.
